The Kumara kottam temple is located between the temples of his parents – the Ekāmbareswarar temple dedicated to Shiva and the Kāmākshi Amman temple dedicated to Kāmākshi, an aspect of Pārvathi.

The child Murugan is depicted seated between his parents. This representation led to the cult of Somāskandha.

Satyavrita Kshetra

Kanchi is also called as Satyavrita Kshetra.
  1. The Goddess worshipped Lord Siva by creating a mud idol in Kanchi.
  2. At that moment, Lord Siva incarnated as Kamba River and with high tides tested the worship of the goddess.
  3. The goddess grasped the idol closely with her two hands from eroding in the tides. This prevented the idol from getting eroded in the floods.
  4. The goddess also performed Pooja by sitting in a needle tip surrounded by “Panchakagni”(surrounded by 5 fires) to free herself from the interest of livelihood.
  5. The Lord Shiva became happy and married the goddess.
